Three Area Womens Squads, Two Men’s Teams Earn NCAA D2 Bids

The Jefferson University men and women and West Chester University men lead a contingent of five Greater Philadelphia teams set to compete in the NCAA Division 2 Regionals beginning this weekend.

Jefferson’s men edged Dominican (N.Y.) to win the CACC title in Head Coach Herb Magee‘s 51st year at the Rams helm. Their run to the championship was caped by a 59-58 triumph in the finals, with senior Kaison Randolph hitting two free throws with 3.1 seconds left. The Rams (21-13) are the East Region’s #8 seed and will take on #1 and host Le Moyne (24-6) on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Rams women gained an at-large bid and #7 seed despite falling in the CACC finals to University of the Sciences (28-3), which claimed its second straight league crown on Sunday. The Rams will battle #2 Bentley (27-3), while the Devils take on #6 LIU Post (26-4) out of the East Coast Conference.

The West Chester women (23-5) are the #7 seed in the Atlantic region after falling in the PSAC semifinals. They will play #2 Glenville State (30-1), the Mountain East champions who sport a 29-game winning streak. The WCU men (21-6) check in at #6 in the region, drawing #3 Wheeling Jesuit (26-5), MEC champions, at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va.
